What a Slow Summer Actually Looks Like
Nobody warned me that summer here doesn't feel like a season. It feels like a pace.
The days don't get busier. They get slower, and somehow that ends up being the entire point.
The Mornings
Pilates twice a week, sometimes before the workday starts, sometimes after it ends. Coffee either way. Weekend mornings a run instead, seven to ten miles at Ala Moana or Kapiolani, then the beach after to cool down. We swim until the run stops mattering.
The Middle
I log off at 3pm most days. In summer that used to feel like the day ending. Now it feels like a second one starting. The light stays long enough to make it worth it.
The Evenings
Most nights we walk from Ala Moana to Waikiki, no plan beyond reaching the water before the light goes. Some Fridays, if the timing lines up, there are fireworks over the water. Nobody plans around it. It just happens to be there.
This is not a season I am spending. It is a pace I finally caught up to.
